Seeking new member to join our team:

• Postdoc (or senior PhD), Antenna, Metamaterials, Metalens Design Engineer

Position information:

• 1-year minimum contract
• Flexible Spring start date
• Option to work remotely (Toronto, ON is an option but not necessary)
• No travel required
• Flexible work schedule

In this role, you will:

• Create designs, models, and simulations of planar 2D objects including array antennas and metamaterial & metasurface lenses using published literature, patents, and instructions
• Use design software such as Ansys HFSS and Matlab
• Export designs for manufacture
• Create bill of materials
• Source all parts and supplies
• Create budget
• Lead in coordination of construction, assembly, and testing
• Collaborate on outsourcing of subcomponent production
• Be responsible for ensuring completion of the deliverables
• Report regularly to the Supervising Professor and company Project Manager

Skills required:

• Research, find, read, understand, and apply knowledge from published papers
• Modify and integrate various designs into a cohesive whole
• Create designs ready for construction
• Coordinate efficiently with faculty, staff, partners, and subcontractors 

Bonus skills (ideal but not essential):

• Manage and organize a small team of researchers, keeping project on schedule and budget
• Produce and manage Gantt charts
• Produce regular progress reports
• Contribute in producing reports to external clients

The ideal candidate:

• Specialization / significant experience in designing metalenses and array antennas in microwave and radio frequencies for high-gain applications (ideally for long-distance wireless power transfer). Please provide samples of your work along with resume and cover letter.

• Experience with Ansys HFSS and Matlab, and/or other related design software

• PhD in relevant field such as electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, physics engineering, applied physics, applied sciences, or something similar, OR currently a senior PhD candidate and eligible to take time to work on this project

• Eager, enthusiastic, self-starter, self-motivated, fast learner, inquisitive, loves learning new stuff, loves to show initiative, loves to make things, team player, creative, computer-savvy, able to work independently and quickly on a fast-turnaround, hard-deadline project

Qualifications you will have:

• Eligible for a postdoc position, either having completed your PhD within the last 5 years, or an active Postdoc, or a senior PhD candidate eligible to take time to work on this project

(NOTE: our funding is limited to only these groups)

• Eligible to work in Canada

• Fluent in English (speaking, comprehending, reading, writing)

• Bachelor degree in relevant field of engineering, physics, or sciences

• Consistent access to high-speed internet for video conferencing

• Strong background knowledge in antenna design, EM wave propagation, polarization, etc.
